polish movie posters

movie poster designers are invariably drawn to polish movie posters for inspiration; their creators work by a different set of rules free of hollywood formula and typical marketing imperatives. none inspire me so deeply as surreal artist wieslaw walkuski. here are four pieces by this master of the craft, that hang on my walls:

for the last several months i've had the honor of working on a fantastic post-apocalyptic animated film from focus features called "9". we're putting the final touches on the print campaign and i'm heading up the creation of a print book to accompany the film. woven through both we've incorporated some exciting new cross-media technologies which i can't discuss now but will blow people's minds...

i was recently given the honor of designing the poster for one of the most beautiful and visually rich films i've seen lately, the fall.

it's by tarsem singh, the director of the cell.

this is definitely one to watch out for.

sometimes

i realize we're not so much people as we are tendencies. atoms and molecules with really complex habits; brief swirls in the eddies of matter and energy. how can we be so arrogant and naive as to presume divine origin or influence? this, i think, is one of our worst habits.

but what do i know. i'm just a fucking amoeba.

last night while my collective molecules slept (another of their habits) they arranged my imprints into a scenario in which i was sitting in the front bench seat of a glossy, midnight-black '75 chevy nova. trent reznor slid into the back and sang "survivalism" at me in a tense and urgent manner, as if worried about something. the music portion of this piece swelled to a deafening crescendo as i turned around and kicked his face in.
